Money and waste saving tip #2

If you have a little left over room in your dishwasher and some recycling you need to set out (like, say a salsa or spaghetti sauce can or bottle) you can throw it in with your dishes. It will be clean and ready to be recycled.

  1. This is a great tip - just be careful that you remove the label before running a jar through the dishwasher. The label residue can damage the motor. I know first hand; we're pretty sure that's what happened to our last dishwasher!

    I'm glad you said that. I was wondering about that when I posted the tip, as I've never actually done it myself-yet. I toured a hotel recently that does that with their large "tin" cans-that's where I got the idea. I'm thinking that for them, though, that it's probably a shorter, hotter dishwashing process. I seriously doubt they take the labels off each can. If you do take the label off, though, there's nothing stopping you from recycling it as paper.
