candle blocks

That Martha-she really does know creativity. I'm now coveting these awesome candle blocks. Of course, the wood would have to be salvage from our local ReStore, naturally.

Garden pot inspiration

I've said it before, but I don't think of myself as a very creative person. I saw this post on Martha and was inspired. Next time I'm at a thrift store, I think I'll try to find some objects that can be reused as planters.

Also, my Green Drinks co-coordinator and good friend, Laura, mentioned that she reused an old crock pot that had broken as a planter. What ingenuity!

Climate Change messaging-the right way

I read this article yesterday and think it's great reading for anyone interested in Climate Change and how we're going to get "everyone else" on board.

RePlayGround

It had been awhile since I visited the wonderful RePlayGround blog, even though they're on my blog feed to the right. I was pleasantly surprised when I stopped by today. Go check it out!

I especially liked the top two posts: Reusing foil trays and the Rethink hanger

Where I'll be tonight

I'll be attending the first Town Hall meeting with the new mayor of Vancouver, WA tonight. See you there?

I'd like to see if any questions get asked about sustainable efforts by the City, or if there are other issues on the citizens' minds.

earth-friendly and charitable

Want to benefit the American Diabetes Association and buy some great eco-friendly reuse products?

While I would never necessarily push consumerism on anyone, these products can both be used to help cut down on disposable packaging. If they're something you need anyway, you can feel good about them in two ways! The first is a nice set of reusable shopping bags. The second is a set of collapsible bowls. You could keep one or more of these in your car and the next time you have left-overs at a restaurant, use these instead of accepting styrofoam or other take-out packaging that is not likely to be recyclable.

One Less Plastic Bag

Today, I was thinking about how it took me awhile, but now I rarely accept a plastic bag. (I think I've accepted *maybe* 10 in the last year.) I was also thinking about how myself and others could share our successes. So, I'm proposing that every time you find yourself making a choice that keeps you from using a plastic bag when you otherwise would have, post it! Use the following hashtags to celebrate and share your choice with others.

If you're not on Twitter, feel free to share your success here! Comments are open.

Reuse flower

What do you do when you're headed to a Hawaiian theme party and you realize the perfect accompaniment to your outfit would be a flower in your hair? Why, you make yourself one, of course! This flower is made from a plastic bag, tissue paper and a twisty tie left over from Xmas toys. I will try to post a better picture of the flower later.

Reuse Craft materials available and wanted

Hello all!

If you're crafty, have I got the material for YOU! Ever thought of making something with vellum? If so, you're in luck! I happen to have access to a metric poop-ton of this stuff. Let me know if you want some.

Also, I'm looking for a good source of packaging of all kinds. Specifically, Capri-Sun pouches. Does anyone know of a day care/school that would be willing to collect these for a crafty friend of mine? I'm also looking for other types of packaging. Chip bags, frozen food bags, coffee bags-anything that you're currently throwing away that you'd be willing to collect will go to another crafty friend of mine. Thanks in advance!
