"Check 'Em Off, Green" was born from an idea that went something like this, "I wish I could attend one holiday event and check everyone off my shopping list. I don't want to buy "cheap plastic junk" and I'd like to buy from my community. I've seen great things at the Recycled Arts Festival, but I wasn't organized enough this year to shop that early for everyone." This holiday event is intended to be a one-stop shop for members of our community to check everyone off their list in an environmentally friendly way. You might purchase a tool caddy made from reclaimed fence wood or a handbag made from un-recyclable chip bags. Maybe you'd like to purchase an "experience" like a guided fishing tour or a gift certificate to a local restaurant. This event will have something for everyone on your list-even that person who seems to already "have everything." The packaging will be minimal or non-existent and you know you're supporting your neighbors and your community with your purchases. After you've shopped, drop into the sustainable wrapping station and have your gifts wrapped while you enjoy a hot chocolate or a bite to eat. Then, just sit back and enjoy the time with family and friends this holiday season.
Check out the newest picture collages below: These are just some of the many thousands of items available that will help you check off everyone from your shopping list, in a "green" way!
Here are some of the websites of the many vendors that will have special items for you on November 12th:
2nd Annual Check 'Em Off, Green holiday gift event on November 12th at the Marshall Center
Check 'Em Off, Green was a rousing success last year. We had 2 vendors sell out completely and almost 50 vendors total. Most vendors have told us it was a very successful event for them. We think we had about 1,000 customers and are hoping for even more success this year. We are adding some fun highlights this year (see below.) The ultimate goal of Check 'Em Off, Green is to be a one-stop shop for anyone wanting to purchase green gifts for everyone on their shopping list.
Because this event is free to you, we do expect a few things of you as a vendor. Firstly, we would really appreciate if you would consider making a donation to the Marshall Center in whatever amount you feel is appropriate. The Marshall Center is giving us their space for free and we're passing this amazing deal on to you as a vendor. We want to make sure we continue to be welcome at the Marshall Center and think that a donation to the Parks Foundation is an excellent way to give back. Secondly, because we are spending exactly $0 on advertising, we expect every vendor to help us get the word out to the best of their ability. This means starting approximately 6 weeks previous to the event, we will have a poster that you can post, emails to send to friends, relatives, email lists, etc and we'd like to create some buzz around this event on Facebook and Twitter. If you are vending at our event, you have a responsibility to make sure customers also attend! :D
New this year: We are partnering with Clark County Live to have a booth that we're calling the Discovery booth. This means that if you or someone you know has experiences like dinner for two, fishing trips, wine tours, or gift certificates, etc. they can be a part of the event without even having to man a booth. The Discovery booth will help you stay at your business while someone else sells for you. Talk about a one-stop shopping opportunity!
We have had a lot of interest from vendors so far. Because the ultimate goal of CEOG is customers being able to check everyone off their list in one place, we unfortunately do not have room for info-only booths. Everyone will need to be offering a gift or service of some kind to our green shoppers. Our focus will be on products that are locally sourced, made of reclaimed material, or support a sustainable lifestyle in some way. In short, no "cheap plastic junk" We are working to make this a unique & diverse shopping experience for everyone, so we will be jurying the vendors. We will limit the amount of vendors selling similar items & will station them apart from each other in the gym for visual variety. We will favor returning artists and reserve the right to kindly decline items that are not a fit for our event.
There will be a limited amount of spots with an electrical outlet, so make sure to let us know your needs right away so that we can accommodate you. We will have plenty of time to set up this year because we have the space reserved the whole day.
If you believe you would be a good fit for our 2nd annual Check 'Em Off, Green holiday gift event please email us with a few pictures of your products and a brief description. Let us know if you'd like to participate in person or would like to hear more about the Discovery booth. Space is limited and November 12th seems to be right around the corner, so please don't wait.
Thank you,
Vancouver Green Drinks Co-coordinators Laura & Terra.
